Sandstorm's Resolution Wrap Up

As 2015 draws to a close, Sandstormers are busy wrapping up our New Year’s resolutions before the clock strikes midnight. Help us celebrate the completion of each goal with these fun GIFs!

Be sure to check back each day until 2016!

Resolution: Save Money

Megan is counting her pennies as 2015 winds down. Looks like somebody is ready for a vacation!

Resolution: Take Fewer Ubers

Adam is determined to spend less time in Ubers in 2016 and more time on his feet!

Resolution: Finish a scarf

Just as the snow begins falling again in Chicago, Alicia is finally getting around to finishing that scarf she started back in 2007. Better late than never!

Resolution: Exercise more

It is everyone's perennial resolution - as soon as January 1 rolls around, those gym memberships start flying in. Unfortunately most of us fall off the bandwagon by February. This year Lisa has been creative in getting her lift in wherever she can.

Resolution: Learn Spanish

Executive Creative Director Janna is putting in some last-minute study hours to try and perfect her Spanish before the clock strikes medianoche!

Resolution: Relax more

Developer Jeff can always be found hard at work building a jazzy website for our clients. So now he is trying to get in some last minute rest time before the new year.

Resolution: Unsubscribe from email lists

Our Art Director Nathan had too many emails flooding his inbox. So this year he made the choice to finally get around to unsubscribing from all the lists he was no longer interested in. Of course, we were there to help him celebrate his accomplishment!

Resolution: Read all the books Laura has recommended

Laura Luckman Kelber, our Chief Strategy Officer, is a voracious reader. Luckily, she always lets us know when a particularly good book crosses her path. This year, Kellye devoted herself to tackling the “Laura-Recommended Reading List!”

Jesse Lankford Promoted to Interaction Designer

Business is booming over here at Sandstorm, and we have been fortunate to grow the talents of our staff to meet the rising demand.

Jesse Lankford, a longtime Sandstormer, is enjoying the latest of a long line of promotions we have been celebrating. Jesse now holds the title Interaction Designer, putting him on the front lines of innovation in the realm of user experience.

In his new role, Jesse is responsible for the design of any interaction between a user and the client. As a result, he will be heavily involved in our web projects, designing customer journey flows and information architecture to ensure that the digital experiences we build for our clients are optimized for the user.

Beyond wireframing and organizing navigation structure for the web, Jesse’s visual design skills will still be put to good use on numerous logo, print, brand identity, and presentation projects.

One half of Sandstorm's “New York office,” Jesse works remotely from his Brooklyn apartment. He feeds his inspiration through his side project, Loosey Goosey, which seeks to promote the work of emerging artists. We are very excited to see what the future has in store. Congratulations, Jesse!

Nathan Haas is now our User Interface Art Director

Sandstorm’s resident darts and lacrosse expert, Nathan Haas, now boasts the title of User Interface Art Director. In his new role, Nathan oversees user experience design projects with an eye toward optimizing the user interface.

Indeed, it is at this intersection of UI and UX where Nathan thrives. Never content with something that merely “looks pretty,” he is constantly pushing the team to design websites in a way that complements intuitive, user-centric functionality.

Don’t believe us? Check out the work he did on the Urban Innovations website. After teaming up with firebrand developer Kyle Lamble, the duo drove home a stunning product that marries crisp UI with a streamlined UX.

We can’t wait to see what this design dynamo delivers in his new role.

13 Days at Sandstorm: A Retrospective

As the most recent addition to the Sandstorm team, I figured I would just speak about my current experiences at Sandstorm as if I have been working here for a very, very long time. I mean, time is nothing but an illusion anyway (shout-out to my fellow philosophy majors). So, here it goes:

Ah, as I look back fondly on that first day I came in to work at Sandstorm, I can hardly believe a full three days has passed. Where did the time go? It seems like just yesterday I was walking up the stairs to the third floor of this office building for the very first time. In truth, it was the day before yesterday, but the vivacity of my memories betrays the vast gulf of time that separates me from those distant events.

Sounds good, right?

Not only was my first day at Sandstorm very recent, but it was also very eventful - full of highs and lows. High: we got free lunch! Low: mine didn’t get delivered. I’m choosing to believe the restaurant messed up and it wasn’t some kind of Sandstorm hazing. In fact, Sandy herself offered up her bread roll to hold me over until my food arrived, so I’m sure there was no intended ill-will.

In all seriousness, I am very excited to be the new Digital Coordinator at Sandstorm. In the past, I have done a little bit of everything - from content writing to house demolition - and I look forward to continuing that tradition of wearing many hats in my new role in the world of marketing strategy.
